minimization
Minimization is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) term that describes the act of
shrinking a window or program in order to reduce it to an icon, or a small image on the
tool bar. On a crowded desktop screen, sometimes less is more. Minimizing is
helpful because it gets a program or a document out of the way, without actually closing
it. When you want to bring up the minimized program or document, you simply click on
its image and you are back where you want to be without any wasted time.
